In Tuesday’s (1/12) San Francisco Chronicle, Joshua Kosman writes, “Mariedi Anders, an artist’s manager for classical musicians who promoted the careers of her clients with a combination of fearless tenacity and maternal care, died Dec. 26 at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco after a short illness. She was 94. For more than half a century, Mrs. Anders shepherded a flock of conductors, pianists, string players, singers and performing ensembles through the concert world. … Among the artists she championed were conductors Leonard Slatkin, Sergiu Comissiona, Nikolaus Harnoncourt and Hans Graf; singers Peter Schreier, Lucia Popp and Matti Salminen; violinist Thomas Zehetmair, cellist Natalia Gutman and the Borodin and Prague String Quartets. … In 1959, after helping a friend produce an opera, she opened her company, Mariedi Anders Artists Management. The firm merged with California Artists Management in 2007, but she continued to take an active role in its dealings. Mrs. Anders was one of the founding members of the Western Arts Alliance, which awarded her its Distinguished Service Award in 1986. She was awarded a lifetime membership in the Association of Performing Arts Presenters.”
