THOMAS SIDERS has been appointed assistant principal trumpet in the Boston Symphony Orchestra. A Tanglewood Music Center fellow in 2008 and 2009, and winner of the BSO’s 2009 Voisin Trumpet Award, Siders received a master’s degree from Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music in 2009 and furthered his professional training as a member of the New World Symphony in Miami Beach. He is a native of Champaign, Illinois. Also announced by the Boston Symphony was the appointment of YUNCONG ZHANG as a member of the violin section. A native of China, she came to the U.S. in 2003 to study with Glenn Dicterow and Lisa Kim at the Manhattan School of Music. Zhang has performed as soloist and concertmaster on various occasions at Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., and at Cleveland’s Severance Hall. She has performed in the Oberlin Conservatory Music ensemble and held summer fellowships at Aspen Music Festival and School, Taos School of Music, Pacific Music Festival, and Music Academy of the West.
