For its two February concerts celebrating five years performing at the Music Center at Strathmore, the Baltimore Symphony is inviting local amateur musicians to perform with the orchestra onstage. Music Director Marin Alsop will lead up to 600 amateur musicians in the fourth movement of Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4; each concert evening, from 6 to 10 p.m., will be broken up into separate 40-minute sessions beginning at 6 p.m., 7 p.m., 8 p.m., and 9 p.m. The event, “Rusty Musicians with the BSO,” is an outgrowth of the orchestra’s goal of increasing community involvement in music. Amateur musicians, who have already been chosen for both nights, can download their individual parts in PDF form at the BSO website. In addition to its performances at Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall, in Baltimore, the BSO regularly performs at the Music Center at Strathmore, located in North Bethesda, Maryland, which opened in 2005.
