Naxos, the parent company of the Naxos classical-music recording label, will launch a new paid streaming video music subscription service on February 1, 2010, which will include full-length videos of concerts, operas, ballets, and documentaries. Among the labels to be represented are Arthaus Musik, Dacapo, Dynamic, EuroArts, Ondine, Opus Arte, Medici Arts, Naxos, and TDK. The Naxos Video Library will stream videos at 700 kbps (standard quality) and 2 mbps (high quality) and is compatible with PC and Mac computers. The library, which will initially have 250 videos, expects to have 500 titles for streaming within three months. Among the features of the new service are subtitles in up to five languages; the ability to follow along with scrolling libretto text; the ability to create custom clips; and search functionality by category, role, composer, artist, production, personnel, venue, or festival. The library joins a variety of other Naxos library-music services: a streaming audio music library, a jazz database, a spoken-word library, and a downloadable sheet-music database.
