EarShot has announced that it is now accepting applications for the Pioneer Valley (Massachusetts) Symphony New Music Readings, to be held on April 17 and 18, 2010 in Northampton, Massachusetts. This is the PVSO’s first partnership with EarShot, a nationwide network of new music readings and related composer-development programs. The readings are designed to help emerging composers gain visibility in the field of orchestral music. Composers may submit scores of works up to 15 minutes in length composed after December 31, 2003 that have not yet been performed by an orchestra. The deadline for submissions is February 15, 2010. Up to four composers will be chosen for the readings, which will include performances of the selected work, as well as mentorship and feedback by Paul Phillips, music director of the PVSO, and from composers Derek Bermel and Lewis Spratlan. EarShot is a partnership among American Composers Orchestra, American Composers Forum, American Music Center, the League of American Orchestras, and Meet The Composer. More information about the readings is available here.
