In Sunday’s (1/31) St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Sarah Bryan Miller writes, “There’s a definite Slavic flavor to the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra’s 2010-2011 season. A festival-within-the-season devoted to Russian composers—Tchaikovsky, Shostakovich and Prokofiev among them—will begin on opening weekend, Sept. 18 and 19, and continue sporadically through the year.” Also on the schedule, she notes, are “a pair of Mahler symphonies to mark the composer’s centennial, a healthy serving of ‘adventurous and new music,’ a significant portion of the citywide American Arts Experience-St. Louis festival and a gala concert featuring soprano Renée Fleming on Oct. 2.” Other featured soloists will include soprano Christine Brewer, pianists Olga Kern and Emanuel Ax, and violinist Joshua Bell.
