Brazil’s São Paulo State Symphony (Orquestra Sinfônica do Estado de São Paulo) has appointed ARTHUR NESTROVSKI artistic director. In this capacity he will work closely with Music Director Yan Pascal Tortelier and the orchestra’s administration to deepen OSESP’s relationship with the government of São Paulo and other Brazilian institutions, create educational programs, and raise awareness of artistic activities at the orchestra’s concert venue, Sala São Paulo. A Brazilian composer, author, journalist, teacher, and guitarist, Nestrovski was senior music critic for the newspaper Folha de São Paulo and senior editor of its publishing branch, PubliFolha. His writings also include Notas Musicais (2000), Outras Notas Musicais (2009), and several prize-winning books for children. Nestrovski has performed widely in Brazil and Europe, taught at the Graduate College of PUC/São Paulo, and served as music director of Vila Sésamo, the Brazilian version of Sesame Street. He holds a music degree from England’s University of York and a Ph.D. in music and literature from the University of Iowa.
