The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra has announced details of its 2010-11 season, which will be the tenth and final season under Music Director Paavo Järvi. Soprano Kathleen Battle will sing songs of Richard Strauss during the all-Strauss season-opening concert on September 30 at Cincinnati’s Music Hall. The season also will feature five commissioned fanfares celebrating Järvi’s tenth anniversary with the orchestra and the fiftieth anniversary of WGUC, Cincinnati’s classical radio station; the fanfares, says Järvi, are meant to “hearken back to the fanfare project CSO Music Director Eugene Goossens spearheaded in the 1940s that produced Copland’s ‘Fanfare for the Common Man.’” The season will also include the world premiere of an orchestral work by Daniel Bernard Roumain, a Sphinx Organization commission. Other highlights include a two-week Mozart festival in November and a season-long Beethoven piano concerto cycle. At the end of the 2010-11 season Music Hall is scheduled to close for approximately 16 months for a major renovation; an alternate venue for 2011-12 will be announced at a later date.
