The Elgin Symphony Orchestra in Illinois will perform eight classics programs during its 2010-11 season, which will open in October with three performances of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony at Elgin’s Hemmens Theatre. Other works scheduled during 2010-11 include Bruckner’s Symphony No. 2; Strauss’s Don Juan; and Beethoven’s Triple Concerto, with violinist Chee Yun, cellist Alisa Weilerstein, and pianist Inon Barnatan. Also scheduled are four pops programs, three family programs, and a concert featuring the vocal group Five By Design. During the season, the orchestra’s thirty-sixth under Music Director Robert Hanson, the orchestra will enter the second phase of its Building Community Through the Arts initiative, established during the 2009-10 season. The new phase includes a $75 small-business sponsorship; an expansion of its Elgin: Home for the Holidays collaboration with local businesses; and new partnerships with Elgin-area nonprofits. In conjunction with the opening of the season, the orchestra will launch a redesigned website offering online subscription renewals; ticket sales with real-time seat availability; an online-donation feature; and an interactive application linking concert repertoire with special dates in patrons’ lives.
