In Saturday’s (2/6) Montreal Gazette, Arthur Kaptainis reports, “Kent Nagano and the Montreal Symphony Orchestra announced plans Friday to take up residence for a week at the Orford Arts Centre in the Eastern Townships—not far from the Knowlton Festival that suspended operations suddenly last fall. Characterized in a statement as a ‘festival within a festival,’ The Kent Nagano and the OSM Week—its official title in English—opens on July 31 with a Beethoven recital by the Austrian pianist Till Fellner at the Arts Centre and closes on Aug. 8 with an MSO concert in St. Patrice Church in nearby Magog. Repertoire for this program (with Fellner as soloist) and a concert on Aug. 5 (with the German violinist Christian Tetzlaff) is entirely Austro-German and classical. … The Nagano/OSM week is integrated with the Orford Academy Orchestra workshop led by Jean-François Rivest, a former assistant conductor of the MSO and trusted Nagano lieutenant. Eighteen of the 21 orchestral teachers working for the academy, which lasts from July 25 to Aug. 15, are MSO principal players or associate principals.”
