A report Friday (2/19) on SouthCoastToday.com (Massachusetts) states, “The New Bedford Symphony Youth Orchestra (NBSYO) announced the appointment of Tobias Monte as the new Senior Orchestra conductor. Having been an orchestral musician for the better part of 30 years (he was a member of the New Bedford Symphony Orchestra in the early ‘80s) as well as a music teacher for the same amount of time, Monte says he’s ‘looking forward to working with these enthusiastic young musicians and building a youth orchestra program that students will be both excited and proud to be a part of.’ … As a performer, he holds positions in the trumpet sections of the Cape Cod Symphony Orchestra, the Plymouth Philharmonic Orchestra and the Simon Sinfonietta. As a conductor, Monte has been the director of the Marion Concert Band since 1985. He directed the 2008 Southeastern Massachusetts School Bandmasters Association Festival Senior High School Orchestra and the 1993 Rhode Island Junior High School All-State Band.”
