TOM BENNETT has been named executive director of the Boise Philharmonic Association, effective May 1. He goes to Boise after fourteen years with the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra, where he was appointed chief executive officer in 1996. Bennett is also producer and co-owner of the pops show “Sophisticated Ellington, Symphony and Swing.” He has been affiliated with South Dakota’s Sioux Falls Area Chamber of Commerce since 2003, and was on the League of American Orchestras Board of Directors from 2003 to 2005. Prior to his South Dakota post he had served as executive director of the Hawaii Symphony Orchestra (1994-95) and operations manager of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra (1988-94). He holds a bachelor’s degree from Bowdoin College in Maine, where he pursued a double major in economics and music, and earned both an MBA and a Master of Arts Administration degree from Southern Methodist University in Dallas.
