Maryland’s Annapolis Symphony Orchestra has released Three Symphonic Centuries, its first CD, under Music Director José-Luis Novo. The recording commemorates the 300th anniversary of Annapolis’s Royal Charter and emerged from the ASO’s three-year project commemorating the charter giving the city of Annapolis the right to govern itself. The CD, recorded at two November 2008 concerts at the Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts in Annapolis, includes works composed or premiered in 1708, 1808, 1908, and 2008: Corelli’s Concerto Grosso in F Major, Op. 6, No. 9; Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5; Ravel’s Rapsodie Espagnole; and the recorded premiere of Tri-Sattawat by Narong Prangcharoen, a Thai composer in his thirties. The 49-year-old orchestra received a 2008 ASCAP Adventurous Programming Award for the four world premieres generated by the Annapolis Charter 300 Young Composers Competition; Prangcharoen’s work was the winner of that competition.
