Arizona’s Tucson Symphony Orchestra has announced that SUSAN FRANANO will retire as executive director at the end of the 2009-10 season following nine years in that position. Franano has had an extensive career in arts administration, performance, teaching, and public policy leadership. Before coming to Tucson in 2001 she served as executive director of the Kansas City and Columbus (Ohio) symphony orchestras and of the statewide advocacy organization Ohio Citizens for the Arts. After earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and pursuing graduate studies in voice she performed for fifteen years in opera, oratorio, recital, and musical theater.
