In Sunday’s (2/28) Grand Rapids Press, Jeffrey Kaczmarczyk writes, “Visually oriented concerts, cross-cultural programming and community collaborations on events such as ArtPrize 2010 all are part of the Grand Rapids Symphony’s 2010-2011 season. The orchestra opens its season in the fall with concerts inspired by the visual arts and ArtPrize and with music to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the opening of DeVos Hall in 1980. Music on the Classical Series will include such audience favorites as Carl Orff’s ‘Carmina Burana,’ Tchaikovsky’s First Piano Concerto and Beethoven’s ‘Eroica’ Symphony No. 3. … Jazz vocalist Lizz Wright will be special guest for next year’s ‘Symphony with Soul’ show in February 2011. The popular three-concert SymphonicBoom Series will screen the film ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers’ in October, bring Cirque de la Symphonie back for the holidays in December, and welcome pianist Jim Brickman for his first appearance with the orchestra next April. … Despite challenging economic times, the orchestra hasn’t cut any performances from its different series and hasn’t raised any subscription ticket prices for the 2010-11 season.”
