In Wednesday’s (4/7) Dallas Morning News, Scott Cantrell reports, “The Dallas Opera has named Keith Cerny its new general director, effective May 24. Currently CEO of Sheet Music Plus, the world’s largest internet-based sheet-music company, Cerny (pronounced ‘SUR-nee’) previously spent three years as executive director and CFO of the San Francisco Opera. Before that, he held executive positions in communications and technology operations with Accenture and McKinsey & Company. He has also done consulting work for English National Opera, Opera America, Washington National Opera, Los Angeles Opera and Houston Grand Opera. … Cerny, 47, will become the local opera company’s seventh general director in its 53-year history, but its fourth within the last decade. … Cerny, who grew up in Berkeley, Calif., graduated with highest honors in both music and physics from the University of California there. After working as a free-lance opera coach and conductor in London, he received an MBA from Harvard Business School and a doctorate in economic development studies from The Open University in Milton Keynes, England. … In a still difficult economy, Cerny will face the challenge of raising additional funds to cover higher costs of performing in the Winspear Opera House.”
