Wednesday’s (4/7) News Blaze (Folsom, California) reports, “The Diller-von Furstenberg Family Foundation has announced a special gift … they are willing to help keep Club facilities and provide support towards the organization’s newly created Symphony Orchestra Program [at the] Roy W. Roberts, II -Watts/Willowbrook Boys & Girls Club (WWBGC). WWWBGC’s Executive Director Les Jones meets with Alex von Furstenberg, Director and Secretary of The Diller-von Furstenberg Family Foundation, in September to talk more about the organization and the youth that is serves. Mr. Alex von Furstenberg made a commitment of $50,000 to improve the Los Angeles Club … Watts/Willowbrook [will] use the granted $50,000 to jumpstart their Symphony Orchestra music program which will comprise instruction, appreciation, and access to a various array of music. Children will learn to play violins, viola, cellos and bass instruments by ‘El Sistema’ trained teachers. … On December 9, 2009, the WWBGC Symphony Orchestra held its first orientation with youth and their parents.”
