The Hartt School at the University of Hartford has announced the appointment of HILARY FIELD RESPASS as director of the Hartt Community Division, effective next month. Currently executive director of the Preparatory and Continuing Education Division at New England Conservatory, she brings more than twenty years of experience to the job. Respass has held several previous posts at NEC, including head of operations and institutional planning (2007-09), manager of performance services (1995-98), and budget director (1994). From 1999 to 2002 she was director of operations at Aspen Music Festival and School, and she served as director of artistic and management services at the League of American Orchestras (then known as the American Symphony Orchestra League) from 2002 to 2006. Respass also spent two years (1991-93) as managing director of the contemporary-music ensemble Boston Musica Viva. A graduate of NEC and the University of Michigan, she is a trained clarinetist, with degrees in both music education and performance.
