The Charlotte Symphony in North Carolina has announced details for the 2010-11 season, its first under new Music Director Christopher Warren-Green. The September opening concert at Blumenthal Performing Arts Center will be an all-Elgar program, chosen in celebration of the arrival of Warren-Green, who is moving to Charlotte from his native London this summer. Other season highlights include Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2, with Natasha Paremski as soloist; Haydn’s The Creation, sung in German, with the Oratorio Singers of Charlotte; an all-Brahms concert to include the Academic Festival Overture, the Symphony No. 1, and Schicksalslied, with the Oratorio Singers of Charlotte; and Sibelius’s Symphony No. 2 plus Grieg’s Peer Gynt Suite No. 1 and Piano Concerto in A minor, with Stephen Hough as soloist. In addition to conducting Classics concerts, Warren-Green will lead the orchestra in concerts at the Knight Theater in Charlotte and participate in the CSO’s “Orchestra on Campus” project, a partnership with students and professionals from museums and local colleges that provides students with hands-on training in the arts.
