The New York Philharmonic, Cincinnati Pops, and Eugene (Ore.) Symphony are among the orchestras recently announcing summer concert events. The New York Philharmonic’s seventh annual Summertime Classics series (June 29 to July 10) will feature four programs at Avery Fisher Hall, led by Vancouver Symphony Orchestra Music Director Bramwell Tovey. Concert themes include an all-Russian program; an all-American program featuring the U.S. Military Academy Band; opera arias, with soprano Nicole Cabell; and “From the Danube to the Rhine,” featuring music of Reznicek, Brahms, Liszt, Suppé, and Johann Strauss II. The Cincinnati Pops’s summer lineup at Cincinnati’s Riverbend Music Center will include Broadway- and Beach Boys-themed concerts, a Fourth of July celebration, and an evening of film music conducted by John Williams in tribute to his friend, Cincinnati Pops founder Erich Kunzel. Oregon’s Eugene Symphony has announced that Springfield Creamery, an Oregon yogurt manufacturer, will co-present its annual free outdoor summer concert at Cuthbert Amphitheater in Eugene, on July 17, led by Music Director Danail Rachev.
