The 92nd Street Y in New York has announced details of its 2010-11 concert season, which will include “Music and the Brain,” a lecture series led by neuroscientist and musician Daniel J. Levitin. The three sessions will feature Levitin in conversation with New Yorker writer Adam Gopnik, bass guitarist Victor Wooten, and songwriter Joe Henry. A four-part “Art of the Guitar” series will feature pre-concert lectures by Yale University guitar professor Benjamin Verdery and performances by guitarists Eliot Fisk, Ana Vidovic, and Sérgio and Odair Assad of works by Bach, Villa-Lobos, Toru Takemitsu, and Leo Brouwer. Pianist Leon Fleisher will present two recital programs featuring music by Bach, Brahms, Ligeti, and Schubert; and will discuss his career with Washington Post classical-music critic Anne Midgette, co-author of his forthcoming memoir. Other featured artists include violinist Jennifer Koh, the Tokyo String Quartet, the Takács String Quartet, pianists Ingrid Fliter and Piotr Anderszewski, clarinetist Anthony McGill, and oboist Liang Wang. All concerts will take place at the Y’s Kaufman Concert Hall in New York City.
