The Yakima (Wash.) Symphony Orchestra has announced the appointment of LAWRENCE GOLAN as music director, effective July 1, 2010. Golan is currently completing his final season as resident conductor of the Phoenix Symphony and as conductor of the Phoenix Youth Symphony. He will retain his affiliation with the University of Denver’s Lamont School of Music, where he is director of orchestral studies/professor of conducting as well as music director and conductor of the Lamont Symphony Orchestra and Opera Theatre. Golan holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music from Indiana University, and a doctorate from New England Conservatory. He received further training in conducting as a fellow in the American Academy of Conducting at Aspen Music Festival and School.
