The Detroit Symphony Orchestra is accepting entries for its fifth annual Elaine Lebenbom Memorial Competition for Female Composers. The DSO sponsors the award to a living female composer of any age or nationality; award winners receive a $10,000 prize, made possible by an anonymous donor. Previous winners include Du Yun, Cindy McTee, Margaret Brouwer, and Stacy Garrop. The work composed by this year’s winning composer will be performed by the DSO on its 2011-12 Classical Subscription Series. The submission deadline for the 2010 competition is July 1, and the winning composer will be notified by October 15, 2010. Applications may be downloaded at http://www.detroitsymphony.com/lebenbom; for further information send an email to Erik Rönmark at eronmark@dso.org.
