In Friday’s (4/30) Birmingham News (Alabama), Michael Huebner reports, “The Alabama Symphony Orchestra has hired Fawzi Haimor as its new Assistant Conductor. Haimor was raised in the Middle East and California. He studied at University of California, Davis, and at Indiana University, where he directed the symphony and opera. Leonard Slatkin, Herbert Blomstedt, Gustav Meier and Mark Gibson are among the conductors he has worked with. He will serve as Music Director of the newly formed Alabama Symphony Youth Orchestra. Haimor replaces Yaniv Attar, who conducted ASO educational and outreach programs for two seasons. Attar recently won the 2010 Solti Foundation’s Career Development Award.”
