In Wednesday’s (5/6) Miami Herald, Tom Austin writes, “The New World Symphony on Tuesday unveiled opening festivities for its Frank Gehry-designed, $154 million concert hall and campus just off Lincoln Road in Miami Beach. The fun begins Jan. 25, following the orchestra’s first concert in its new home, when the building’s 7,000-square-foot exterior projection wall will be fired up for the premiere of a commissioned video mural by Tal Rosner and digital artist Casey Reas. The London-based Rosner has worked with Gehry’s Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles. … Rosner will debut another NWS-commissioned video work on Jan. 26 and 28 to accompany the premiere of a composition from Britain’s Thomas Ades. Starting Jan. 27, NWS concerts occasionally will be broadcast live and free on the projection wall, which overlooks a 2.5-acre park designed by the Dutch firm West 8. … On Jan. 30, NWS founder and artistic director Michael Tilson Thomas will conduct Modeste Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition, accompanied by the premiere of 11 commissioned short films by students and recent graduates of the School of Cinematic Arts at the University of Southern California, where both Thomas and Gehry were students.”
