Carnegie Hall has announced that Henry T. Segerstrom, founding chairman of the Orange County Performing Arts Center and the Segerstrom Center for the Arts, will receive the Carnegie Hall Medal of Excellence for leadership in arts philanthropy. The Carnegie Hall Medal of Excellence will be presented to Segerstrom on June 7 at New York City’s Waldorf=Astoria Hotel. Segerstrom serves as a board member for numerous institutions, including Carnegie Hall, the White Nights Foundation of America, the American Friends of Versailles, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, and the Huntington Library in San Marino. Under Segerstrom’s leadership, the Segerstrom Center for the Arts began a partnership with Carnegie Hall in fall 2009, bringing Ancient Paths, Modern Voices, a Carnegie Hall festival celebrating Chinese culture, to southern California. The partnership will continue this year with Carnegie Hall’s JapanNYC festival appearing in California as part of Orange County’s JapanOC festival from October 2010 through April 2011.
