The Virginia Symphony, headquartered in Hampton Roads, has announced the appointment of BENJAMIN ROUS as associate conductor, effective this August. He will conduct the orchestra’s Pops and PB&J Family concerts as well as planning and conducting its Young People’s concerts and other educational and outreach activities. Since 2008 Rous has served as assistant conductor of the Phoenix Symphony and conductor of the Phoenix Youth Symphony. Previously he held assistant conducting posts with the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra and the Ensemble Orchestral de Paris. Rous holds a master’s degree in conducting from the University of Michigan and a bachelor’s in music from Harvard College. He received further training in conducting at Aspen Music Festival and School.
