San Diego Symphony bassist W. Gregory Berton; his wife, Rosanne; and their family have made the San Diego Symphony the beneficiary of the Berton Family Charitable Trust, a new irrevocable charitable remainder trust valued at more than $300,000. The gift will support the orchestra’s Young People’s Concerts. W. Gregory Berton has played bass with the San Diego Symphony for 27 years and has also served as chairman of the orchestra committee and member of the board of directors. Rosanne Berton is a retired administrative manager and textbook editor for the University of California, San Diego. As an acknowledgement of appreciation for the gift, the San Diego Symphony will rename its educational concert series the San Diego Symphony Berton Family Young People’s Concerts. Commenting on the Bertons’ contribution, Music Director Jahja Ling said, “You have set an example which will be an inspiration to all of us who love this orchestra. The legacy of this gift will last for generations and will influence our children and grandchildren as they enjoy and appreciate classical music in the years to come.”
