The American Composers Forum has announced the formation of the Jerome Fund for New Music, a commissioning program for emerging composers. The Jerome Fund replaces and expands on the Jerome Composers Commissioning Program. Emerging composers from the state of Minnesota and the five boroughs of New York City are eligible to apply; composers writing for all musical genres may apply for funding in conjunction with a performer or performing arts group. JFund will grant up to $7,000 toward the composer’s commission fee, which should reflect the duration of the work, size of performing forces, an estimate of the composition time needed, and the cost of producing scores/parts. Works must be in the early stages of composition at the time of application. The postmark deadline for applications to the Jerome Fund is August 20, 2010; more information about the program, including how to apply, is available here. Based in St. Paul, Minnesota, the American Composers Forum’s stated mission is to “provide new opportunities for composers and their music to flourish, and engage communities in the creation, performance and enjoyment of new music.”
