In northern Virginia, the Winchester Orchestra has announced the formation of an initiative called The Orchestra X Project, focusing on new music. For the project, an ensemble of musicians from the orchestra will perform works composed in the 20th and 21st centuries and will also collaborate with living composers at reading sessions and in performances of new works. Orchestra X will perform works incorporating music with dance, theater, film, video, and the visual arts; other plans are to present interactive and nontraditional concerts for the Generation X and Y age groups. The orchestra is inviting composers to submit scores to be considered for a performance by Orchestra X; more information is available at the Winchester Orchestra’s website.
