In Friday’s (5/28) Times Call (Longmont, Colorado), Magdalena Wegrzyn writes, “Emily Olson graduated from Berthoud High School last weekend. On Monday, she’ll board a plane and head to China for an 18-day whirlwind concert tour. The 17-year-old cellist is one of 14 students from the Longmont Youth Symphony who will travel to China to perform a series of concerts. … A total of 53 student musicians from youth symphonies in Longmont, Boulder and Denver were selected for the trip, said the orchestra’s conductor, Yin-Feng Keynes Chen. The students, accompanied by more than 30 parent chaperones, will whiz through eight Chinese cities before returning to Colorado on June 18. They will tour two top music conservatories in Beijing and hobnob with both professional and amateur Chinese musicians. … Chen cherry-picked top students from the three youth symphonies in the Front Range after a January audition. … The Chinese Musicians’ Association, China’s largest music organization, invited the student orchestra to perform in the country.”
