California’s Riverside County Philharmonic has announced the appointment of TOMASZ GOLKA as music director. He succeeds the late PATRICK FLYNN, who held the post for eighteen years and died in September 2008. Music director of the Lubbock (Tex.) Symphony Orchestra, and one of seven conductors who led concerts of the Riverside County Philharmonic this season as candidates for the leadership post, Golka has appeared recently with such orchestras as the Fort Worth (Tex.) Symphony, the Warsaw Philharmonic, and Houston’s River Oaks Chamber Orchestra. Also a violinist and composer, he has served as concertmaster of Spoleto Festival USA and the Owensboro (Ky.) Symphony Orchestra. A native of Warsaw, Golka studied conducting with David Effron at Indiana University and with Gustav Meier and Markand Thakar at the Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University. He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Rice University.
