The Akron Symphony in Ohio has appointed LEVI HAMMER assistant conductor and music director of the Akron Youth Symphony. Now finishing a conducting apprenticeship with Music Director Benjamin Zander at the Boston Philharmonic, Hammer has performed as pianist and harpsichordist with the New World Symphony, and has served as staff pianist/vocal coach at Rice University Opera in Houston. He studied conducting, piano, composition, and languages in both the U.S. and Europe. Hammer’s teachers include conductors Dennis Russell Davies and Kurt Masur, and pianist Brian Connelly.
