Boston University has announced the appointment of BENJAMIN E. JUAREZ as dean of its College of Fine Arts, effective August 1. He is currently director of culture, technology and development at Mexico’s Dr. Jose Maria Luis Mora Research Institute for Social Sciences, History and Culture, and served previously as director of cultural activities at the Universidad Anahuac del Sur, also in Mexico. From 1978 to 1979 Juarez was head of music and dance at the National University of Mexico. He has held several conducting posts, including assistant conductor, State of Mexico Symphony Orchestra; associate conductor, Mexico City Philharmonic; and music director, Gran Festival de la Ciudad de Mexico. Juarez holds a master’s degree in music from California Institute of the Arts (1973) and a bachelor’s degree from Centro Universitario Mexico (1969). In 2002 he received a certificate in business administration from the Universidad Anahuac del Sur.
