Sunday’s (6/20) Hudson Hub Times (Ohio) reports, “Levi Hammer has been appointed Akron Symphony Orchestra assistant conductor and music director of the Akron Youth Symphony after a three-month search headed by ASO Music Director Christopher Wilkins. Hammer replaces Christopher James Lees, who announced his resignation in March, and will relocate to Akron from Boston later this summer. As a musician, Hammer has performed as pianist and harpsichordist with the New World Symphony, Mercury Baroque, and in several performances of Aaron Copland’s complete piano music. Hammer is currently finishing up an apprenticeship with Maestro Benjamin Zander at the Boston Philharmonic.  Prior to his hire at the Akron Symphony, Hammer served as staff pianist/vocal coach at Rice University Opera and was also music director of Hammer Music, a series of thematically programmed concerts.”
