YURIY BEKKER has been named concertmaster of Florida’s Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra, effective in September. A native of Minsk, Belarus, and now a United States citizen, Bekker has served as concertmaster of the Charleston (S.C.) Symphony and of the AIMS Festival (Graz, Austria), and has played with the Houston Symphony, the Houston Grand Opera and Ballet, and the Louisville Orchestra. He has also performed widely as a recitalist and collaborated with such groups as the Indiana String Quartet, Degas String Quartet, and Chicago Chamber Music Society. Bekker holds a graduate performance diploma from the Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University, and both bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Indiana University School of Music.
