In Tuesday’s (6/29) Portland Business Journal, Matthew Kish reports, “Oregon Symphony President Elaine Calder has agreed to a four-year contract extension that will keep her at the top of the performing arts group through 2014. In a news release, Symphony Chair Walter E. Weyler credited Calder with building relationships with musicians and the community, growing ticket revenue, cutting expenses and retiring $7 million in long-term debt. ‘A staff member recently characterized Elaine as the best president the Oregon Symphony has ever had,’ Weyler said in the news release. ‘She lives the job. We all benefit from Elaine’s presence in and commitment to the Oregon Symphony and our community.’ Calder joined the symphony in 2006 as strategic-planning consultant. She became president in July 2007.”
