For its July 16 “Planet Earth Live” concert at Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre at Encore Park, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and local radio station DAVE FM (92.9) are partnering with the National Audubon Society by asking ticket-buyers to make a $1 donation to support Audubon’s Gulf Oil Response. Monies collected will support Audubon’s work to help birds and other wildlife in the path of the oil spill and meet the long-term challenge of restoring the Gulf of Mexico ecosystem following the April explosion, fire, and subsequent oil spill at the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig off the coast of Louisiana. “Planet Earth Live,” an adaptation of the 2007 BBC “Planet Earth” documentary, features music by George Fenton performed to images of the earth, from Africa to the Arctic region, projected on large screens. For the Atlanta concert, there will also informational booths from other Atlanta-area “green” organizations, including the Georgia Aquarium, Zoo Atlanta, the Captain Planet Foundation, Georgia Conservancy, Atlanta Intown’s Green Caboose, Keep Alpharetta Beautiful, and the Fernbank Museum.
