In Thursday’s (7/22) Savannah Morning News (Georgia), Allison Hersh writes, “Music by Tchaikovsky, Brahms, Bach, Strauss, Gershwin and other legendary composers will take center stage during the Savannah Philharmonic’s 2010-2011 season. … Building upon last year’s success, the new season will feature an expanded lineup of seven philharmonic concerts and four chamber music concerts. … The season officially kicks off Sept. 11 at 8 p.m. at the Lucas Theatre with ‘The American Spirit,’ a special program featuring American composers like Leonard Bernstein, George Gershwin and John Philip Sousa to celebrate Patriot’s Day. Season highlights include ‘Christmas with the Philharmonic’ at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist on Dec. 17-18, which will include holiday favorites like excerpts from the ‘Nutcracker’ and Handel’s ‘Messiah’ as well as sing-a-long carols. The Philharmonic will also present a fully staged version of ‘Cosi fan Tutte,’ the classic Mozart comic opera, at the Lucas Theatre on Jan. 21-22, with international soloists from Europe performing live. … The Savannah Philharmonic Chamber Music Series debuts Sept. 12 with a brass quartet performance featuring works by Bach, Vivaldi, Gabrieli and Boyce.”
