Seattle Symphony Music Director Gerard Schwarz and Interim Executive Director Mark McCampbell have announced the appointment of ERIC GARCIA as Douglas F. King Assistant Conductor for the 2010-11 season. He succeeds THOMAS HONG, whose tenure ended in May 2010. Garcia is currently assistant conductor at North Carolina’s Eastern Music Festival, where Schwarz serves as music director, and was formerly orchestra director and professor of music theory at St. Xavier University in Chicago. His background also includes posts as assistant conductor of the Elmhurst (Ill.) Symphony Orchestra and associate conductor of the Sherwood Conservatory of Music Symphony Orchestra in Chicago. Garcia holds a bachelor’s degree in music theory and composition from the University of Texas, and received both master’s and doctoral degrees in orchestral conducting from Northwestern University.
