The Atlanta Symphony announced the three finalists in its “Atlanta Symphony Songster 2010” vocal competition, launched last month for amateur singers age 18 and older. The finalists—Joseph Brewer (Columbus, GA), Rebekah Dossou (Lilburn, GA), and Christina Lewis (Cincinnati, OH)—were selected by a panel of judges including ASO President Stanley Romanstein; Atlanta Symphony Staff Conductor and Youth Orchestra Music Director Jere Flint; Principal Flute Christina Smith; and Brandon Bush and Adam McKnight, board members of the Atlanta Chapter of The Recording Academy. The finalists will each perform “Over the Rainbow” with the ASO at the orchestra’s August 14 concert featuring music from The Wizard of Oz at Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre at Encore Park. At the concert, audience members will choose the contest winner by text message or by online voting; the winner will receive two round-trip tickets to New York City and two concert tickets to the ASO’s October 30 concert at Carnegie Hall, among other prizes. The singers’ YouTube video entries can be viewed at the ASO website, and on August 14 the competition will be streamed live on UStream.com.
