The Minnesota Orchestra will perform at major music festivals in London, Edinburgh, and Amsterdam from August 24 to 31 during a European tour underwritten by an anonymous donor. Music Director Osmo Vänskä will lead two concerts at London’s Royal Albert Hall as part of the BBC Proms festival, with repertoire to include Bruckner’s Symphony No. 4 and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9. At Scotland’s Edinburgh Festival, the orchestra will perform Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7 and the Elgar Cello Concerto with soloist Alisa Weilerstein; they will repeat Beethoven’s Seventh at Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw as part of that city’s Robeco Zomerconcerten festival of classical, jazz, and world music performances. Beginning on August 25, an “eTour” will be posted at the Minnesota Orchestra’s website www.minnesotasorchestras.org ; the orchestra’s performances at the Proms will also be broadcast live on Minnesota Public Radio on August 27 and 28 at 1:30 p.m. (Central Daylight Time). President and CEO Michael Henson commented, “Earlier this year, we established a regular broadcast presence on BBC Radio 3. Joining up the broadcast series with live performances at the Proms and important festivals in Edinburgh and Amsterdam allows us to maximize the Minnesota Orchestra’s international impact, despite the challenging economic environment.”
