ERIC BENJAMIN has been appointed conductor of the Canton (Ohio) Youth Symphony, an educational arm of the Canton Symphony Orchestra, effective with the 2010-11 season. He recently served as orchestra director and lecturer at Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Mass. Benjamin’s background includes eleven years as resident conductor of Ohio’s Akron Symphony Orchestra, during which time he also directed the Akron Youth Symphony and appeared as guest conductor with the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra, the Canton and Columbus symphony orchestras, the Erie (Pa.) Philharmonic, and numerous student festivals. He is a graduate of New England Conservatory, where he received a master’s degree in orchestral conducting and a bachelor’s in music education.
