The Portland Youth Philharmonic in Oregon has appointed KEVIN A. LEFOHN as executive director, succeeding Diane Syrcle, who left in May to become executive director at the Oregon Ballet. Lefohn, who begins his duties on August 30, will also serve as the orchestra’s chief fundraising officer and work with Music Director David Hattner on PYP’s performance, education, touring, and community engagement programs. Lefohn holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in violin performance from the University of Oregon and the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and most recently was artistic administrator at Christchurch Symphony Orchestra in New Zealand. In 2003 he founded the Queenstown (New Zealand) Violin Summer School and Festival of Chamber Music, a two-week session for advanced violin students.
