The Symphony of Northwest Arkansas, based in Fayetteville and known until recently as the North Arkansas Symphony, has announced the appointment of PAUL HAAS as music director, effective August 25. He has served as music director of the New York Youth Symphony, and more recently as founding artistic director of Sympho, a New York City-based production company dedicated to innovative concert formats. Haas has guest conducted such orchestras as the San Antonio and Fort Worth symphonies and the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, and is a past participant in the League of American Orchestras’ Bruno Walter National Conductor Preview. He has also enjoyed an active career as a composer. Haas holds degrees from Yale University and from The Juilliard School, where he was a Bruno Walter Fellow under the tutelage of Otto-Werner Mueller. He resides in New York City with his wife Suzette and young daughter Ciel.
