The South Carolina Philharmonic, based in Columbia, has announced “Music for a Cause,” a new program that creates partnerships with seven area charities during the 2010-11 season. The charities were selected by SCP staff; each charity is assigned a specific Masterworks concert, and the SCP will partner with that charity for co-promotion purposes. The charities are Alzheimer’s Association-S.C. Chapter (September 16 concert); Children’s Chance (October 16); Celebrate Freedom Foundation (November 13); AIDS Benefit Foundation of S.C. (January 15); Pawmetto Lifeline (February 12); Harvest Hope, as part of the League of American Orchestras’ annual Orchestras Feeding America food drive (April 2); and Keep the Midlands Beautiful (April 30). The orchestra will offer each partnering charity the option to sell SCP tickets to its stakeholders, with the orchestra donating 75 percent of the face value of each ticket to the charity. Volunteers for the charities have the option to staff information booths at their assigned concert.
