The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra has announced three senior-level staff appointments: MATTHEW SPIVEY, vice president of artistic operations; DEBORAH BRODER, vice president, BSO at Strathmore; and CHERYL GOODMAN, director of fundraising and administration for OrchKids, the BSO’s after-school education program. Spivey has spent the past five years as vice president of artistic administration at the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra; he served previously as artists’ assistant at the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and had held a similar position with the Boston Symphony Orchestra at Tanglewood. Spivey is a graduate of New England Conservatory and a former clarinetist in the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra. Broder, who begins her duties October 11 at the Music Center at Strathmore (North Bethesda, Md.), brings more than 25 years of arts management experience to that job, most recently as director of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Jacksonville, Fla. She has also served as development director for Jacksonville’s Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens, and as president of Broder Advertising, based in Baltimore and Jacksonville. Goodman has worked extensively in the Baltimore area with such arts organizations as The Hippodrome Foundation, the Eubie Blake Cultural Center, Theatre Project, WEAA-FM, and the Maryland State Arts Council.
