The Rogue Valley Symphony (Ashland, Ore.) has announced the appointment of MARTIN MAJKUT as music director. The post took effect in August, and he will make his podium debut with the orchestra at its season opening concerts September 24-26. He is a native of Bratislava, Slovakia, where he received early training in piano and subsequently studied both piano and conducting at the State Conservatory. He has served as assistant conductor of the Slovak Philharmonic, and has frequently guest conducted that orchestra as well as the Slovak Sinfonietta, the State Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Slovak Radio Orchestra. Majkut holds doctoral degrees from Bratislava’s University of Music and Performing Arts and the University of Arizona.
