JONATHAN MARX has been named director of communications at the Nashville Symphony. A member of the orchestra’s administrative staff since July 2008, he previously worked as publications manager, overseeing the orchestra’s program guide and serving as a staff writer and editor for various communications, marketing, and development efforts. He is a former journalist with eighteen years of experience as an editor, critic, and reporter for the Nashville Scene and The Tennessean. A native of Nashville, he has also maintained a side career as a musician, having recorded a dozen albums and toured widely with the group Lambchop, performing on woodwinds, trumpet, and electronics. Marx is a member of the group Hands Off Cuba and has appeared on recordings by Yo La Tengo, Portastatic, and Vic Chesnutt. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Columbia University.
