TUGAN SOKHIEV has signed a four-year contract as principal conductor and artistic director of the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, effective with the 2012-13 season. From the start of the 2010-11 season he holds the title music director designate. For the past two seasons Sokhiev has served as principal conductor of the Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse, a post that he will retain in addition to his new post in Berlin. Sokhiev has guest conducted the DSO on several occasions, and made his debut with the Berliner Philharmoniker in January 2010. A native of Vladikavkaz in the former Soviet republic of North Ossetia, he studied conducting with Ilya Musin in St. Petersburg.
